Get ready for a fun – and safe – summer on the water
 Warm air temperatures don’t translate to warm water temperatures, and even the strongest swimmers can become incapacitated from cold-water shock. Wear a lifejacket. King County, Public Health – Seattle & King County, and the King County Sheriff’s Office encourage kayakers, boaters, rafters and swimmers to use caution while enjoying the open water.

Summer travel emergency preparedness tips
Planning a summer road trip? Be sure to service your vehicle beforehand and pack emergency supplies for each family member. Include plenty of water and non-perishable snacks, first aid kit, medications, sunscreen, jumper cables, car jack and spare tire, mobile phone charger, and extra cash. King County town halls
Hundreds of residents across unincorporated King County have been attending King County Community Service Area’s town hall meetings. We have three more meetings scheduled, offering local residents an opportunity to connect with County officials. We look forward to seeing you in June.
2018 CSA Community engagement grants
 We’ve been celebrating the implementation of past Community Service Area grants supporting local projects in unincorporated King County. We were recently in Hobart where we joined local residents and Councilmember Dunn in celebration of new playground equipment funded in part by a CSA community engagement grant. 2018 grants open in late summer.

Rare disease linked to raccoon roundworms
 A King County toddler contracted Baylisascaris infection, a rare disease associated with accidental ingestion of roundworm eggs found in dirt contaminated by raccoon droppings. Public Health advises all residents to prevent infection by washing hands after working or playing outdoors and avoid areas that are frequented by raccoons, especially “raccoon latrines.” Learn more at the Public Health Insider.

Pavement repair work scheduled for Southeast Issaquah-Fall City Road and 328th Avenue Way Southeast
Starting May 23, crews will begin pavement repair work on Southeast Issaquah-Fall City Road and 328th Avenue/Way Southeast from Southeast Duthie Hill Road to Preston Fall City Road Southeast. The work is expected to last two weeks, but is weather dependent. Traffic will be restricted to one lane with flaggers guiding traffic through the work area from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 Secure Your Load Day
Did you know that in Washington state nearly 25,000 accidents are caused by unsecured loads each year and that 100 of those accidents are fatal? June 6 is Secure Your Load Day.
Snoqualmie Valley Area — Tolt-MacDonald Park barn rehabilitation update
The replacement of the Tolt Barn roof has been delayed and repairs have been rescheduled for this fall. The barn is open for public use until the start of construction later this year.
West King County Area — Mel Olsen Stadium renovation project is complete
Just in time for baseball season, the Mel Olsen Stadium renovation project at Steve Cox Memorial Park has been completed. The scope of work included structural seismic upgrades, metal roof panel replacement, concrete patch repairs, wall surface treatments and grandstand light fixture replacement.

Wine and Beverage Study responses — public review draft released
The public review draft for the Sammamish Valley Wine and Beverage Study will be released on May 25. The document is a response to the study developed by the task force last year. The responses include proposals for new trail connections in the Sammamish Valley, continued support for agriculture in King County’s Agriculture Production Districts, and new regulations to guide the development of wineries throughout King County. View the Public Review Draft after May 25. Public comments will be accepted through June 8.
