Transit Alert – Seattle area transit service will be significantly affected by multiple May Day events on May 1

On May 1, from approximately 8:00 AM until possibly late evening, transit service will be significantly affected by multiple May Day events in and around downtown Seattle, including both planned and unplanned rallies and marches.

Expect some planned transit reroutes as well as possible significant service delays due to traffic, crowds and congestion associated with these events.

Event and transit reroute start and end times and other details may be subject to change.

Major planned events
Veteran Anti-War Formation
This march will begin at 2nd Av and University St at approximately 8:30 AM and will travel via 2nd Av, E Cherry St and 23rd Av E to Judkins Park.

Expect some delays in transit service that travels through these areas.

May Day Immigration March
A rally will begin at Judkins Park at approximately 11:00 AM. The march is expected to leave the park at 1:00 PM and proceed to the Seattle Center via S Jackson St, Boren Av, 12th Av, Madison St, 6th Av, Denny Way and 5th Av N

Routes 7, 9, 14, 36 and 106 will be rerouted off portions of S Jackson St or other parts of their from about 1:00-3:00 PM.

Other May Day events
There are multiple other planned events on May Day with less specific information available.  All event and reroute times are only approximate and are subject to change. Other transit serviced in the Seattle area may be delayed or temporarily rerouted by these events. Delayed service in one area may create delays in other areas.  During major disruptions real time apps and information signs may not be able to accurately predict when buses will arrive at stops.  All transit riders should be prepared for delays and allow plenty of extra time for travel on Monday.

Seattle Streetcar service
Both the First Hill and South Lake Union streetcars will suspend service at 9:00 AM on Monday, and will resume service along all or portions of their routes as conditions allow.  Streetcars will not operate when their routes are occupied by event participants.

Planned events & construction
Visit Metro’s Service Advisories page for complete information about revised bus service, routing and stops for known and planned events and construction activities.  The start and end times and other details for planned reroutes are subject to change.

Civic and other large event information
In areas where there are crowds, traffic or unscheduled events or construction activities disrupting normal travel patterns or activities, transit riders are advised to be aware of conditions in their immediate vicinity – such as street closures, detours, police directions, etc. - and be prepared for delays or to make revisions to travel plans – such as using a different bus stop or a different route - based on specific circumstances.

During these kinds of events, be prepared for unexpectedly revised traffic or routing and for delays in transit service. Use the regularly published timetable for your route, allow plenty of time, but be prepared for possible schedule delays or temporary reroutes.  It may not be possible for Metro to provide real time updates.

Transit riders are encouraged to know what alternate stops or routes may be in the vicinity of their starting points and destinations.

Depending on the time and the nature of such events, Metro may not be able to provide real time information or service updates via email or text. Reroute start and end times and other details may be subject to change.
