Moving to Action: Ending Homelessness through Racial Equity

As part of the All Home Capacity Building Plan, please join us on March 22, 2017 for a day of learning, discussion and action titled Moving to Action: Ending Homelessness through Racial Equity. Regardless of your official role or title, you can make an impact to:

  • Identify how you can be an agent of change
  • Improve the quality of services you provide to people of color
  • Orient your organization and programming around racial equity

Date/time: Wednesday, March 22, 8:30am – 3:00pm

Location: Youngstown Cultural Arts Center (4408 Delridge Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106)

Registration required: http://bit.ly/2mec587

In order to accommodate broad and diverse participation, we are currently asking that organizations register no more than 3 people. We may communicate additional available spots depending on registration results and appreciate everyone's flexibility. Please email Danielle.winslow@allhomekc.org with any questions.

Host Homes

A recent King 5 story explored the promise of Host Homes in supporting youth experiencing and at risk of homelessness. Community members welcome young people directly into their homes, offering a sense of stability and connection to other resources.

“When you feel like you’re a part of that family, you feel like you can do things that you are needing to do to be successful because you don’t have to worry about ‘Where is my food coming from?’ or ‘Where is my safety going to be?' or 'Where am I going to sleep tonight?” said Nicole Guiberteaux, who runs the host home program at the YMCA of Greater Seattle.

In King County, the Accelerator YMCA’s Host Home Program is designed to support young adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in King County. The YMCA recruits, screens, and trains all host families prior to a young person being matched to that family. The program provides young people with the space and opportunity to build independent living skills, gain stability, develop lasting relationships, and focus on goal attainment. Host families provide up to six months of supportive services to a young person, ages 18-24, while that young person continues to work with a case manager. #SeaTech4Change Technology Volunteer Fair

Zillow

Join Zillow for their second annual #SeaTech4Change Technology Volunteer Fair on Thursday, April 27, from 5 to 7 pm at Zillow HQ in downtown Seattle: 1301 2nd Avenue, floor 31. In an effort to further align the volunteer fair with Zillow’s vision of helping everyone find their way home — as well as to celebrate Fair Housing Month — this year’s #SeaTech4Change event will support nonprofits that focus on issues around housing and homelessness.

Zillow is asking Washington-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits with a focus on housing to submit a proposal by March 17 that outlines the project(s) they need technical help with. They will then select 20-30 nonprofits to come to Zillow and discuss those projects with skill-based volunteers. Please fill out the nonprofit submission form to provide information about your organization, project goals and technical needs.

Apply for Homeless Health Services Funds – Opening March 16

Agencies providing health services to homeless individuals can apply to partner with Health Care for the Homeless Network (HCHN), a program of Public Health-Seattle & King County (PHSKC).  HCHN will release a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) on 3/16/17. HCHN provides high-quality and low-barrier health care to people experiencing homelessness throughout King County.  Services are provided by PHSKC directly, and by partners who provide a range of services at nearly 50 sites and on the streets. Partners provide medical/nursing, outreach, case management, mental health, and substance use disorder services. HCHN strives to make services accessible throughout King County to the single adult, family, and youth/young adult populations.

Agencies interested in helping HCHN provide these services are encouraged to attend bidders’ conferences during the week of 3/27 in Seattle and North, East and South King County.  Technical assistance (TA) will be available at no cost to help agencies with limited experience applying for King County funding and/or limited knowledge of King County contracting requirements. The TA will include review of the RFQ for fit with agency services, application review and support prior to submission. Information on accessing the TA will be available following the regional bidders’ conferences.  Dates of the regional sessions will be available soon by visiting the HCHN webpage.

The RFQ will close April 21, 2017. Agency funding will start in January 2018.  Contracts for services will be renewable for calendar years 2019 and 2020. To receive notices for this and other Public Health funding opportunities, sign up HERE.
