Community Service Area (CSA) grant notice coming soon
The King County CSA program received 59 applications for Community Service Area grants to support initiatives in unincorporated King County. Thank you for your interest and for all the great work done throughout the county by community organizations. We will be announcing the grant awards in the near future. Be on the lookout for announcements on the CSA website.
Get your creative project funded
Consider applying for a 4Culture Project Grant, funding King County projects that have arts, heritage or preservation at their heart. Deadlines are right around the corner, but it’s not too late to apply. Contact 4Culture to see if your project is the right fit.
 It’s planting season, and King County Parks needs your help
Come volunteer to help improve King County Parks' stream corridors and urban forests by planting native trees and shrubs along our major rivers or in our urban parks. Or give back to those trails that you love and join us and the Washington Trails Association to rebuild and repair backcountry trails. There are still several events left this winter. Annual property taxes and discounts
Property taxes increased across King County by 8 percent on average this year. Low-income seniors, veterans and disabled homeowners may qualify for a property-tax exemption through the Assessor’s office. Some parcels may qualify for Stormwater Management Fee discounts, credits and cost-share projects. For questions, call 206-477-4800.
 Register now for the Big Backyard 5K
Support King County Parks and register today for the eighth-annual Big Backyard 5K on June 11 at Marymoor Park. Register early and get a free hoodie, thanks to our friends at Harborstone Credit Union.
Seattle Bike Show
Join King County Parks at the Seattle Bike Show, March 4-5 at the CenturyLink Field Event Center. We will be there to answer questions regarding regional and backcountry trail bike opportunities and upcoming construction projects. Come by and say hi – and pick up a regional trail map and some awesome bike swag!

Bear Creek/Sammamish Area
Upper Bear Creek Community Council
March 28, 7-9 p.m. at the Woodinville Library, 17105 Avondale Rd NE, in Woodinville. Novelty Hill Road
Daily lane restrictions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Northeast Novelty Hill Road through approximately March 3. The project is weather dependent. Crews are replacing concrete transition ramps at several intersections, which is the first step in the process toward repaving large sections of Novelty Hill Road later this year.

Black Diamond Area Stewardship Planning
Comments were submitted to the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks on its Black Diamond Open Space Stewardship Plan. These included the following recommendations based on the policies contained in the King County Open Space Plan: (1) Keep trails to a manageable number; (2) Avoid conflicts between mountain bikers and hikers/horseback riders; (3) Recognize sensitive areas and their ecological importance; (4) Strive to protect wildlife and natural areas; and (5) Recognize the entire area is in the County’s rural area.

Vashon/Maury Island Area
Affordable housing community forum
A community forum on affordable housing in the Town of Vashon will be held Feb. 23 from 6 - 8 p.m. at McMurray Middle School, 9329 SW Cemetery Rd., on Vashon. Part of the Vashon-Maury Island 20-year CSA Plan, the event will include a short overview of Vashon’s affordable housing needs, the Community Advisory Group’s recommendation for a new affordable housing incentive in the county code, and a community dialogue. All islanders are welcome to attend!
 Maury Island Natural Area restoration update
The restoration work at the Maury Island Natural Area has been completed. Earlier this month, the contractor finished repairing the trail, which had been used as a construction road during construction. King County Parks performed this work in order to comply with a Washington Department of Ecology order to clean up contaminated soil at the site from the Asarco Smelter.
CSA Vashon Days
March 7, 1 - 6 p.m. at the Vashon Community Service Center, 10011 SW Bank Rd. on Vashon. Come meet your Community Service Areas representative, Bong Sto. Domingo. West King County Area
 Community comes together to ready new Family Shelter at White Center
More than 120 people – members of the White Center community, Mary’s Place and King County staff showed up at 9 a.m. on Sat., Feb. 11 to wash walls and windows, mop, vacuum, weed and rake the former Public Health Clinic to get it ready to become a temporary home for families with children. The new Family Shelter at White Center, opening in early March, will house about 30 people at first and up to 70 at full capacity. Thanks to everyone who turned out!
North Highline Unincorporated Area Council meeting
