Volunteer with King County Parks

Planting season is in full swing and the King County Parks Volunteer Program needs your help. Spend some time planting native trees and shrubs along our major rivers or in our parks to improve water quality and wildlife areas. Families, groups and individuals are all invited to get involved with our volunteer program. Check out our blog post for a full list of volunteer opportunities this fall.

Halloween Carnival

The Annual King County Parks Family Halloween Carnival is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2-5 p.m. at the White Center Community Center at Steve Cox Memorial Park. Local teens have planned a variety of crafts and games for children ages 10 and under. Tickets for each activity are sold for .25 each or 4/$1. The carnival is sponsored by the White Center Teen Program which offers free recreational, educational and social enrichment programming to over 900 culturally diverse participants each year.

October is a busy month for our Capital Improvements Program (CIP) as we begin breaking ground on new projects and finishing old ones. CIP supports the acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of parks, trails and recreational facilities. Pictured above is the before and after of the updated South County Ballfield playground which opened in September thanks to CIP.

For more information on projects such as the Eastside Rail Corridor, the East Lake Sammamish Trail, the Green to Cedar River Trails, and the Lake to Sound Trail visit the CIP webpage

Halloween Fun Zone

spooky

As Halloween is quickly approaching, the spirits of King County Parks have been making some special appearances. The FEMA group that is currently renting the Gold Creek Lodge has reported seeing a ghost; a tall elderly gentleman. Have you had any spooky encounters in a King County park recently?
