Scam Alert and Reminders from the Kenmore Police Department Over the past week, two residents have been victims of phone scams involving individuals falsely claiming to be police officers, resulting in losses totaling more than $24,000. In these cases, callers told victims they had an arrest warrant and demanded payment, often in Bitcoin, to avoid being arrested. These calls are always scams.
No legitimate law enforcement agency will ever demand payment, cryptocurrency, or gift cards to resolve a warrant or legal matter. Scammers may use personal information found online or provide fake documents to appear credible. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and call 911 to report the incident.
