Guide the Future of Kenmore’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space – Take the PROS Plan Survey The City of Kenmore is updating its Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan, which guides the future of parks, trails, and recreational facilities in the community. Updated every six years, the PROS Plan ensures the City remains eligible for grant funding and reflects the evolving needs of Kenmore residents. Community input is essential to shaping the plan, and a survey is now live to gather feedback on park use, desired amenities, and future investment priorities. Bastyr University Puts Campus Property on the Market Amid Review of Proposed Master Plan Changes This week, Bastyr University announced that its property within Saint Edward State Park, including some or all of its campus, is for sale. Bastyr has been a valued part of the Kenmore community since relocating here in 1996 and is one of the City’s largest employers. As part of a separate, ongoing process, Bastyr recently submitted proposed updates to its Campus Master Plan and requested a related amendment to the City of Kenmore’s Comprehensive Plan. These proposed amendments will continue to undergo careful review from the Planning Commission, including public input, SEPA environmental review, and final decisions by the City Council. City Council Retreat May 17 On May 17, the City Council is holding a day-long retreat to discuss City finances including possible future ballot measure options, review the work program currently underway to carry out the City Council's direction on their priorities, engage in policy discussions, and set goals for 2026. Kenmore Heritage Society Honors Local Changemakers at McMaster Awards Ceremony The Kenmore Heritage Society (KHS) recently hosted the 2025 McMaster Awards Ceremony, honoring community members for their outstanding contributions. David Baker received the McMaster Heritage Award for his decades of service as Kenmore’s mayor, including expanding parks and securing major grant funding. Emma Choi earned the Emerging Leader Award for her academic excellence, leadership, and volunteerism, while Jason Parker was recognized with the Making a Difference for Businesses Service Award for his support of local businesses and events. The Society also honored Suzanne Greathouse, Past KHS President, for her ongoing dedication to preserving Kenmore’s history. The award winners will be recognized at the May 19 City Council meeting.
