Thank you to everyone who attended the new ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis (Tl' awh-ah-dees) Park opening on May 6! We were privileged to have many civic leaders, city staff, artists, and community members participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony. This improved park provides habitat improvements for fish and wildlife while also increasing public access to the water. The beautiful nature paths, ADA accessible infrastructure and hand-carry boat access will be enjoyed by all in Kenmore for generations to come. Read the full press release, watch a video of the complete ceremony, or enjoy a short highlight video with great aerial views of the park.

As temperatures rise, remember: Lake Washington is still quite cold. Please recreate safely and ensure you know the rules when boating on the lake. Make sure to wear lifejackets and keep an eye on friends and family while cooling off in the water.
On May 17, a new life jacket Ordinance went into effect in Kenmore. Recently, the City Council approved amendments to the Kenmore Municipal Code requiring that anyone using human powered watercraft (canoe, paddleboard, kayak, etc) must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on Kenmore waters (north end of Lake Washington and the slough). The first violation is a warning, with a civil fine after that.

Kenmore's partnership with Lake City Partners Ending Homelessness is up and running thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. Anyone in the community that sees someone who is unhoused and in need of help can reach out to Kenmore's two outreach specialists. They will connect with the person and make sure they have access to the resources and services they need to help them get back on their feet. Lake City Partners is looking forward to connecting and helping as many people as possible in our community. Feel free to contact them with referrals or for more information:

During the first quarter of 2023, the Cadman Kenmore plant hired outside consultants to perform testing at the plant to determine compliance with the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Air Operating Permit No: 11861. Recently a Cadman representative informed the City that the Kenmore plant is currently in an idle status. Here are links to the reports and related cover letter from the owner to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency related to the testing. The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is responsible for ensuring compliance with its permits, and as such, additional questions or comments are best directed to it – Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, WA | Official Website (pscleanair.gov). The City will continue to stay involved as an intervening party in Cadman’s appeal of the PSCAA testing and monitoring requirements, and the City will also continue to be available to respond to nuisance odor complaints.

Community Court in session at Shoreline City Hall. Photo by Jamie Holter.
To build stronger and safer neighborhoods and help prevent repeat of criminal behavior, the City of Kenmore has partnered with King County District Court to join the Shoreline Community Court. The Shoreline/Kenmore Community Court is an alternative, problem-solving court that differs from traditional courts by seeking to identify and address the underlying challenges of court participants that may contribute to further criminal activity. An accompanying resource center connects participants and community members to an array of services. For more information, visit the King County District Court Shoreline/Kenmore Community Court webpage or the City of Kenmore Court Services webpage.
Construction has started on 73rd Avenue NE as part of the Pavement Overlay and Sidewalk Repair Project. Crews are beginning with removal of sidewalk panels and curb ramps that are not in compliance with American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Some trees will be removed along with portions of the road to make room for bike lanes and to bring sidewalks into compliance. What you will see in late this summer is more sidewalk panel replacement and concrete pours for sidewalk panels and curb ramps, then grinding and overlay during the warmer months.
Construction will begin this June to replace the deteriorating culvert located near the intersection of 61st Avenue NE and NE 190th Street with a larger fish passage culvert. Construction is expected last through the fall of 2023. NE 190th Street, east of the intersection of 61st Ave NE will be closed, and will only be accessible for local residents only during construction.
