The Kenmore Top Four(teen) News Highlights of 2022

From a climate action plan and tenant protections to a new farmers market and the completion of the West Sammamish River Bridge, Kenmore made some major progress in 2022. 

As we count down to the end of year, here are the City of Kenmore's Top Fourteen news stories and highlights of 2022. 

Thanks for a great year, Kenmore!

A $244,000 grant provided free summer camp for over 450 kids in Kenmore.

Juneteenth was formally recognized in Kenmore.

Log Boom Park re-opened to the public in July with a sandy beach and many new improvements and amenities.

The City of Kenmore began a partnership with Plymouth Housing Group to build 100 units of future affordable housing downtown.

The Kenmore Public Boathouse received a 2022 Governor’s Smart Communities Award.

Five northend cities (including Kenmore) formed a new Regional Crisis Response agency.

Kenmore received a Municipal Excellence Award for it's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) response, including $1 million in direct cash assistance.

632 free trees provided by King Conservation District were given to residents in an effort to increase Kenmore's urban forest.

The city's first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility policy was unanimously adopted.

The pilot farmers market hosted over the summer was a success and will return in 2023.

Kenmore's Comprehensive Plan was updated, including a new 20-Year Vision Statement and the policy framework needed to revise Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) standards and engage the community on how to allow middle housing within one-quarter mile of Kenmore's transit corridors.

Newly adopted residential tenant protections will help preserve access to affordable homes for renters.

The new West Sammamish River Bridge was completed and thousands attended a Grand Opening Celebration marking the completion of this major project.

The City Council adopted the first Climate Action Plan with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
