Juliana Pooley, David Arthur, Lily Bishop, Chanin Kelly-Rae, Carlos Gil, Leonora Palaña and Nancy Thai celebrate the adoption of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Policy at City Hall on November 14.
On Monday evening, the City Council adopted Kenmore’s first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Policy. This policy frames operational goals and establishes a citywide strategic initiative to promote DEIA in the City of Kenmore’s community culture, programs, services, and workplace while fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community for all.
In addition to the DEIA Policy, the City is working on a 5-Year DEIA Strategic Implementation Plan that will produce a roadmap for advancing DEIA in both the City of Kenmore organization and the greater Kenmore community. This Plan will be developed in early 2023 with assistance from Chanin Kelly-Rae Consulting and a DEIA Advisory Committee, with the goal of adoption and implementation in 2023.
Join us for an evening of celebration and light on December 2nd for the 2nd annual Luminary Walk featuring over 200 luminarias placed along the Burke-Gilman Trail and Log Boom Park. Event includes food vendors, musical performers, and 1/3 mile luminaria lit pathway from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.
The Kenmore City Council is nearing the finish line on the 2023-2024 budget and final adoption is expected at the council meeting on Monday, November 21. At their study session on November 7, the City Council discussed implementing the Climate Action Plan as well as needs for housing and human services. The City Council directed staff to come back in January to with a proposal to fund the initial phases of these programs, including increases in vehicle license fees and garbage and natural gas utility taxes.

There will be additional delay before the start of the Kenmore Automated Photo Enforcement (KAPE) program. Photo enforcement in the Arrowhead school zone on Juanita Drive and the Kenmore Elementary school zone on 73rd Avenue will likely be delayed until spring of 2023. Photo enforcement signing is already in place for these school zones, and installation of the cameras will be completed soon, but unforeseen setbacks will delay implementing the processing system. Once the system is ready to start, there will be a two month warning period during which violations will result in warning-notices instead of fines. Check the KAPE website for more information as it becomes available.
