The Kenmore Top 4: September 9, 2022

To help address the housing crisis, the Kenmore City Council is considering a change around "Missing Middle" housing that would allow duplexes and triplexes throughout Kenmore’s R-6, Single Family Residential, zoning district. "Missing Middle" housing provides more housing choices in between single-family homes and apartment buildings, increases the housing supply, and helps address climate change and historic segregation. You’re invited to learn more and participate in two upcoming events; a presentation on "Missing Middle" housing on September 21, and a public hearing at the Kenmore City Council meeting on September 26. 

Last week, King County installed the advanced warning signs for photo enforcement in the Arrowhead Elementary school zone on Juanita Drive, and the Kenmore Elementary school zone on 73rd Avenue. Does this mean photo enforcement is starting this week? No! State law requires that advance signing for new photo enforcement locations be installed 30 days before cameras are activated. Cameras are planned to be installed and active in early October, with a two month warning period before fines are enforced. Learn more about Kenmore's Automated Photo Enforcement Program.

Paving work will be taking place in three locations next week around Kenmore.

• Juanita Drive: Nighttime intersection restrictions and lane closures will begin September 12 to pave the roadway and intersections from NE 153rd Place to NE 143rd Street.
• Sammamish River Bridge: Paving on the north side of the east bridge is planned for Monday, September 12. Expect delays if traveling through the area.
• ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis Park: Construction crews will be grinding and paving along NE 175th Street on September 9 and 13. No road closure is expected – just flaggers and one lane open at a time with delays throughout the day.

You're invited to Streamfest 2022 this weekend to celebrate the rivers and streams feeding north Lake Washington! The event will take place on Saturday, September 17 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at Log Boom Park and activities will include kayaking/stand up paddle boarding, community science activities, a water monitoring demonstration, fish printing, looking for salmon, and more. This event is hosted by Sno-King Watershed Council, People for an Environmentally Responsible Kenmore, Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation, and Whale Scout, and is funded in part by a grant from the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks. Find event info here.
