Improved Log Boom Park re-opens to the public with expanded beach and new amenities

  • The park reopens to the public this Thursday, June 30

  • Ribbon cutting ceremony will be on August 9 at 6:00 p.m.

Kenmore, WA - Log Boom Park will reopen to the public on Thursday, June 30, 2022. The park has been closed since last summer as renovations were completed on the 1.5-acre Log Boom Park Waterfront Access & Viewing Project. The project, approved by voters through the 2016 Walkways and Waterways bond measure, aims to improve waterfront access to Lake Washington while restoring native vegetation for wildlife habitat.

The 3.9 acre park features a range of new amenities including a new sandy beach and lake access area, water access for hand-powered watercraft, a picnic shelter, a boat rental building, public artworks including the signature “Flume” sculpture by Jennifer Dixon, seating, and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible concrete path promenade. A local concessionaire, WhatsSup Stand Up Paddle and Surf, will also be on site this summer renting hand-powered watercraft such as kayaks and paddleboards.

"We are thrilled to be re-opening this beloved park for everyone to enjoy this summer and for many years to come," said Kenmore Mayor Nigel Herbig. "Residents and visitors to Kenmore will have a much-improved experience when they dip their toes in the sand, launch their kayak, or take in a sunset. I am especially proud of the planning and care taken to preserve, protect and restore the natural habitat along Kenmore's shoreline."

The project includes environmental enhancements such as protection of one acre of on-site wetlands from public access, improvements to aquatic habitat, removal of invasive plant species, and riparian and upland plantings of native vegetation. The work resulted in 106 new trees and over 1,000 new shrubs being planted within the project site.

"We want to thank the Kenmore community for their support of this project and their patience as we have awaited project completion", said City of Kenmore Project Manager Maureen Colaizzi. "I also want to thank the contractor, Road Construction Northwest, Inc., who worked tirelessly to stay on schedule despite pandemic setbacks and maintained a safe and professional worksite throughout the process. We are so excited to share this beautiful new outdoor space with the public."

The Log Boom Park Waterfront Access & Viewing Project is one of five projects included in the 2016 Walkways and Waterways bond measure. In 2015, an extensive community input process confirmed that safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists and connecting residents with the city’s public open space and waterfront are top priorities for the Kenmore community. The overall cost of the project is expected to be $3.8 million. Additional funding for the project was provided by King County and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board. The team for the project includes: Road Construction Northwest, Osborn Consulting/KBA Construction Management Company, Mott Macdonald, JA Brennan and Associates, Davido Consulting Group, Confluence Environmental Company, Pressler Engineering Inc. and J3Architects.
