ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis Park Project Update Roadway Work This Week:
This week, the contractor for the Waterfront & Natural Open Space Access Project at Squire's Landing Park (renamed ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis and pronounced Tl' awh-ah-dees) will continue planting natives, pile driving boardwalk pin piles, grading the site for hardscape surfaces, and installing stormwater and irrigation infrastructure. Work in the right of way for water and power connections began and will continue for the next few weeks. Traffic control on NE 175th will include one lane closure with flaggers present on either side to direct traffic. Work will be intermittent over the next few weeks.
 Log Boom Park Waterfront Access
& Viewing Project:
All flatwork concrete has been completed at Log Boom Park! All that remains is the two boat ramp walls scheduled to be placed on Tuesday this week. A big thank you to the contractor for finding ways to keep the project moving along throughout the Concrete Worker's Strike. It is exciting to see the incremental progress on site!
ARPA Updates Thank you for your feedback!
Thank you to everyone who responded to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) community engagement effort! The City received 806 responses and the Kenmore City Council will consider that input as they adopt an ARPA work program soon. The City just closed the Kenmore Cares direct cash assistance program, in partnership with the Northshore Schools Foundation, and recently issued urgent business assistance grants to small businesses in need. For more information on the City’s ARPA program, please visit the City’s website and/or join the City’s ARPA mailing list.
Kenmore Public Boathouse Receives Local Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award
It was announced in March that the Kenmore Public Boathouse received a 2022 Local Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (LOCEA). The LOCEA Awards recognize projects that have improved the quality of life and contributed to the economic development of the local community, area, or region. These projects represent the successful combination of multiple engineering objectives, including design innovation and excellence, environmental sustainability, cost effectiveness, the effective use of materials, and aesthetics. This is the second time in three years a city project has won this award, following on the heels of 2019’s award for the Rhododendron Boardwalk and Walkway project.

With the cost of doing business rising faster than projected operating revenues, the City Council directed a Financial Sustainability Plan process in 2020. The City appointed a task force of Kenmore residents and conducted a community engagement process to create a plan for the City that would provide financial sustainability for the foreseeable horizon. Based on input from the community, the plan resulted in a combination of reductions in expenditures and new revenues to make sure the City maintains healthy fund balances. The steps to be taken in the adopted Financial Sustainability Plan are to be phased in over multiple years. The plan calls for one of those steps, a new Cable TV utility tax of 6%, to begin in the second half of this year. The City Council will likely consider this tax in the spring or early summer of this year.
