December 27 Snow Update
The City public works team worked through the night plowing and salting/sanding Kenmore streets.
Dear Kenmore Residents –
With record low temperatures on the heels of several inches of snow, our roads continue be very icy, and we strongly encourage everyone to keep their cars parked until warmer temperatures return. When will the temperature rise above freezing? Not for at least several days.
Since the snow storm on Sunday, the City has deployed six snowplows around the clock until early this morning. All of the city-owned streets have been plowed at least once.
At this point the plows can’t do much more—what’s left on the roads is compact ice. It’s more about sanding and salting at this stage in the game. Salt and sand are in limited supply and can’t be spread on all of the city’s roads. The crews have been able to plow down to bare pavement on some parts of the major arterials, but for the most part it’s a skating rink out there. And it looks like low temperatures are going to keep it that way for a few days.
So please stay off the roads as much as possible. At the same time, reach out to a neighbor and see if they need help.
As always, our wonderful coworkers in the City’s public works department and Northshore Utility District have really stepped up and performed amazing work out there. Even with four wheel drive and chains, our crews are not immune from sliding or getting stuck, so they need to be careful as well.
Thank you for your patience as we get through this cold snap together. You can view our snow plow route priority map here.
