Kenmore advances to second round in the national Strongest Towns Contest and vies for semi-finals slot against Bentonville, AR

The 6th annual Strongest Towns Contest continued Monday with the announcement of the second round lineup, which included Kenmore, WA. The only west coast city to advance, Kenmore is matched up against the city of Bentonville, Arkansas to compete for a slot in the semi-finals. Voting is now open to the public to determine which communities will proceed to the next round.

For the second round, competing cities were asked to provide five photos and captions that show evidence of their strength, fiscal resilience, and effective response to challenges. Kenmore highlighted  projects such as The Hangar at Town Square, the creation of Brew Row, community led love notes, and fostering connections to the natural environment. "There are so many exciting and unique things happening in Kenmore right now, it was a challenge to select just five photos," said City Manager Rob Karlinsey. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share what makes Kenmore special on this national platform and to see the amazing things happening in other Strong Towns across the nation."

The four communities that receive the most votes by 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 25 will advance to the semi-finals. "It's quite suspenseful to watch the vote totals roll in," John Pattison, Strong Towns content manager and contest organizer said. "After working closely with people from the 16 communities who started this journey, and even more closely with the eight that have made it to this point, I feel there is so much to learn from every competitor."

The Strongest Town Contest celebrates the towns and cities doing the hard work of becoming stronger, responding to local challenges—and addressing local opportunities—with creativity, intelligence, humility, and courage.
