City Council proclaims March 2021 "Women's History Month" in Kenmore

On March 8, Kenmore City Council will proclaim March 2021 as “Women's History Month” in the City of Kenmore. Women's History Month recognizes that women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of our City, State, and Nation in countless recorded and unrecorded ways. Despite these contributions, the role of American women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued. The City makes this proclamation to celebrate all women and as an affirmation of the City’s commitment to honor the contributions of all women in the past, and to support the women who contribute to our future.

How can you celebrate and participate in Women's History this month:

Did you know?
The first women were elected to the Washington State Legislature in 1912 (Frances C. Axtell of Bellingham, and Nena J. Croake of Tacoma).

Juanita Dr NE Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project

Construction for the Juanita Dr NE Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project is making progress! Storm drainage is currently being installed along the project corridor. Over the next month, crews will begin working on a retaining wall between 153rd Pl and 155th Pl. Juanita Drive NE will be reduced to one lane between NE 153rd Place and NE 155th Street.

Motorists should expect up to 30 minutes of delay on Juanita starting in mid-March through April 2021 and should use alternate routes when possible. Please obey the 25 MPH speed limit when driving through the work zone. Cyclists are reminded to not deviate from regular roadway traffic to avoid traffic queues or temporary detours.

68th Ave NE Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project Soon Underway!

The 68th Ave Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project is scheduled to begin on March 22, 2021 and finish in the fall of 2022. This project will create 1.5 miles of sidewalk and bike lanes and provide a new underground storm water quality and detention system, LED street lighting, new signage, landscaping upgrades, fresh asphalt overlay and more. Construction will require large segments of the corridor to be closed to traffic for 4-8 months at a time, with traffic rerouted (local traffic will still be allowed). To view the segment map, visit kenmoreconstruction.com.

This project will create major traffic disruptions including delays, segment closures for up to 8 months, and re-routes. Expect long delays and inconvenience. Please use alternate routes when possible. Upon completion, the entire Juanita/Bridge/68th/202nd/61st corridor will be much improved for all modes of use, so thank you for your patience and forbearance!

CARES Act grant used to install Wi-Fi Access Point antennas at Kenmore Library

The King County Library System (KCLS) received a federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grant from the Washington State Library (WSL) to expand digital inclusion in King County. KCLS used the funding to help install external Wi-Fi Access Points (AP) at 44 library locations, including Kenmore. These antennas boost the Wi-Fi signal outside of the library for contactless internet access during Covid library closures, and will remain in service after reopening to increase Kenmore community access to online and library resources.
