Ferry Service to Kenmore? Take the Survey!

King County Metro is preparing a report that outlines a plan for potential future ferry service to the Kenmore and Ballard communities.  As Metro prepares the report, they are interested in how people in those communities currently travel in order to understand if passenger-only ferry service could be an option. Please take the survey so Metro hears from Kenmore and nearby communities!

Avoid Phone and Email Scams

An increasing number of phone and email scams have affected Kenmore community members. Don’t fall victim!  Never give out personal information over the phone. Scammers often disguise themselves as officials such as police or federal agents, but these agencies will never threaten you if you don’t pay a debt or fee.  Hanging up is the most effective defense. Never open or click on links in suspicious emails. Trust your instincts if something doesn’t feel right.

Utility Work to Start on 68th Avenue NE & Juanita Drive NE Projects

Two of the voter-approved Walkways & Waterways projects, 68th Avenue NE Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvements and Juanita Drive NE Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvements, are scheduled to start in 2020. New sidewalks and bike lanes are planned for these two major arterials. To prepare for construction, work will start in the first quarter of 2020 to relocate utilities as needed (PSE Electric, PSE Gas, Comcast and Frontier) along 68th Avenue NE and Juanita Drive NE. While utility companies are working, there may be traffic delays and services may be temporarily interrupted.

Join the 2020 Census Team

The U.S. Census is coming in 2020 and help is needed.  There are currently open positions for census field supervisors and enumerators (census takers). 2020 Census jobs provide great pay, flexible hours, paid training and mileage reimbursement. In King County, these positions pay approximately $23.00-$25.50/hour, no experience required.

The City of Kenmore has created a Kenmore Complete Count Committee to help all census blocks achieve a high response rate, including those that have been undercounted in the past. To get involved, please call 425-398-8900.

Target Zero rainy weather

Be Safe. Be Seen.

During this rainy and dark season, we can all do things to be safer on our roads. Please be on the lookout for pedestrians and cyclists. Get your car “rain” ready and check out those tire treads and windshield wipers. When walking or biking, wear a brightly colored rain jacket and add lights and reflective gear.  Free reflective flashing lights and reflective tote bags are available at City Hall any weekday from 9am to 5pm.

Update: Kenmore’s Financial Sustainability

Due to a variety of factors, the City’s operating revenues are not keeping pace with the cost of doing business. While the City has adopted balanced budgets, operating expenditures could exceed operating revenues as soon as 2021. (Note that funding sources and uses for one-time capital projects are separate from and do not directly affect the operating budgets.)

The City is studying this issue and gathering information for the City Council’s review in January. These activities include creating a task force of community members to review the City’s finances, conducting a community survey, commissioning an independent review of City’s long-range financial forecasts, and updating the City’s priority-based budgeting system. Please send your thoughts on this topic to fsp@kenmorewa.gov. We welcome your input!
