DV Purple Light

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This month we join communities around the world to remember victims who lost their lives, support those who survived domestic violence, and hope for those still living with abuse. Each year neighbors show their support by replacing their porch lights with purple lights. The City of Kenmore has a limited supply of purple lights available at no charge. Stop by City Hall from 9am to 5pm to pick yours up today. The Kenmore City Council issued a Domestice Violence Awareness Month Proclamation at their meeting on September 23rd.

What Can You Do To Help?

  • Keep storm drains clear by removing leaves and debris. This will help prevent flooding and pooling
  • Keep gutters and downspouts free of excess leaves
  • Use sandbags or landscape barriers to help prevent washout into the road. Contact the City of Kenmore for locations of available sand bags or click here for information.
  • Keep ditch culverts clear, especially if they have a trash rack

City Council Takes Position on Ballot Measures

The Kenmore City Council recently passed Resolutions on two measures that are on the ballot in this year’s General Election.

Northshore Public Recreation and Service Area Proposition 1:  The  adopted Resolution No.19-329 SUPPORTS this measure that would provide funds for needed maintenance of the Northshore Senior Center. The Senior Center facilities are owned by the Northshore Public Recreation and Service Area, which is a special taxing district governed by a Board that includes the Cities of Kenmore, Bothell, Woodinville, King County and Snohomish County.

State Initiative 976 Limits on Motor Vehicle Taxes and Fee Measure:  The City Council Resolution No. 19-328 OPPOSES this initiative that would repeal car tab fees and Sound Transit funding previously approved by voters. The $20 car tab provides over $350,000 a year to fund maintenance of Kenmore streets.

The Council action on these resolutions is allowed by State statute. Follow the link below for more information on the ballot measures.

Panel Discussion on Housing

On the evening of October 15th at City Hall, a panel of developers and architects will discuss the "missing middle" - cottage housing, duplexes, accessory dwelling units, and other small housing types - that once were common in our communities but have all but disappeared in new construction. Panelists will explore the benefits of smaller housing types, concerns about neighborhood compatibility, and whether the "missing middle" really provides affordable housing. The public is invited to attend.

"The Missing Middle - Reconsidering Small Housing Types from the Past"
