 Hangar Reservation Policy is Changing

Not long ago in August 2017, the vision for a new Downtown Kenmore took a monumental leap forward with the grand opening of our new city building – The Hangar.  We envisioned the Hangar as the heartbeat to our Downtown, a vibrant, community gathering spot.  Since opening, it has indeed fulfilled that vision and is even more popular than we imagined.

We started accepting reservations for the space in October 2017.  In the first year, we received more than 1,000 reservation requests and hosted 553 events and meetings! Both the Otter Room (larger space) and the Beaver Room (smaller conference room) are very popular and booked months in advance.

After evaluating activity and meeting room use, the City Council recently decided to adjust Hangar policies. Two of the key changes include reservations and deposits. Currently, both non-residents and Kenmore residents are able to reserve the Otter and Beaver Rooms at no cost. Approximately 60% of reservations in the last year were held by Kenmore residents, with 40% held by people and groups from other cities.

Reservation Changes

Starting August 1st, 2019 non-residents will no longer be able to reserve rooms, with the exception of non-profits designated as a 501(c)(3) organization. There is no charge to reserve the rooms, but the City will now charge a refundable deposit for groups larger than 30Changes do not apply to reservations that have already been made.

Otter Room (larger, open space) may be reserved by:

  • Kenmore residents
  • Any nonprofit organization registered as a 501(c)(3)

The following cannot reserve the Otter Room:

  • Non-residents of Kenmore
  • For-profit businesses

Beaver Room (smaller room with sliding glass doors) may be reserved by:

  • Kenmore residents
  • Any nonprofit organization registered as a 501(c)(3)
  • For-profit businesses physically located in the City of Kenmore
  • For-profit businesses that are registered as Kenmore Business Incubator clients on the date of the reservation.

The following cannot reserve the Beaver Room:

  • Non-residents of Kenmore
  • For-profit businesses not located in Kenmore, with the exception of Kenmore Business Incubator clients.

Changes go into effect August 1st and do not impact reservations that have already been approved.  Also, keep in mind that the Town Square outdoor space must be reserved separately through a Special Event Permit
