Thank You for a Great #WhyILoveKenmore Summer Party
The grand opening of Kenmore's new Town Square and Hangar was a hit! Hundreds of people joined us on Saturday, August 26 from near and far to visit the new space, and enjoy a community celebration that featured food vendors, musical guests, family-friendly activities, a beer garden, and many local vendors. This event was a great collaborative effort, and would not have been successful without your participation. We would like to thank the Kenmore community for their continued support to move the City in an upward trajectory. To view more photos from the event, click on the image banner above.
Downtown Kenmore Redevelopments
In the near future, MainStreet Property Group will start construction for a new “sit-down” restaurant and office space on the parcel west of the Town Square.
MainStreet is also proposing a mixed-use building between the LINQ Lofts + Flats and the Hangar with street-level commercial along 68th Avenue NE and residential units above. This proposed building will include parking garage on the lower level (below 68th Avenue NE).
The first Walkways and Waterways project has begun at Rhododendron Park. Contractors have begun work to install a new boarding dock for hand-powered watercraft on the Sammamish River. The boat
launch driveway on the east side of NE 68th Avenue is currently limited to one-way traffic until September 14 and will be closed to public
access from September 15 to October 16. The boat launch driveway on the west side of NE 68th Avenue will remain open for
the duration of the project. The City anticipates temporary driveway closures during the middle of November for final
installation of the pilings and float.
Moorlands Park Project Update
Moorlands Park has seen
major work this summer, but most of improvements have been made underground, including power, water, sewer, storm drains and more. For the start of the school year, the construction crew has created a temporary path between the school and the church drop-off location.
Next, concrete will be poured to form a sidewalk along 84th Avenue NE and play equipment will be installed.
Annual Dredging at Wallace Swamp Creek Park
Each summer, the City dredges sediment and debris out of
Swamp Creek from the pond in Wallace Swamp Creek Park. The creek is routed through a bypass channel,
which allows workers to drain the pond and remove sediment and debris. On average, about 3,000 cubic yards of
material is removed from the pond each year. The pond and maintenance road in the park are closed as of September 4 for up to 10 days. The remainder of the park will remain open to the public.
As the pond is drained, fish and other aquatic animals are
captured and transported back into the creek downstream. Some of the inhabitants that we often find
include cutthroat trout, coho and Chinook salmon, sculpin, lamprey, crayfish
and common carp.
Limited Access to Squire's Landing Waterfront
The Squire’s
Landing waterfront access area is now closed to public access during weekdays from
4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the next several months. Contractors began work last week to replace the old float and improve the walking path. The parking lot, boat storage racks and
boat shed will be available only on weekends and most evenings after 4:00 p.m.
