Preparing for the start of the new school year webinar

Please join us for a review of topics you need to understand as you head into the upcoming new school year. Reminder: Update the first day of school

This is a reminder of the importance of updating the first day of school prior to adding new employees into SEBB My Account (SMA) for the upcoming school year.

Updating the first day of school will ensure the employee’s effective date will be calculated correctly in SMA. The effective date for benefits is determined differently in September. For a newly eligible employee who begins work between September 1 and the first day of school, benefits begin on their first day of work. (WAC 182-31-040)

To update the first day of school, the BA with SMA administrator access must:

  1. Go to the Organizational Profile tile in SMA.
  2. Update the date in the ‘First Day of School’ field. If there are multiple dates within the district, enter the latest date. For example: if the high school and middle school begin on September 1, but the elementary school begins on September 7, enter September 7. Educational Service Districts, enter the first working day in September.
  3. Click ‘Submit Changes’.

Update the first day of school in SMA no later than August 2, 2021.
