Health Care Cost Transparency Board to appoint second advisory committee at next meeting

This Thursday, May 13, the Health Care Cost Transparency Board (HCCTB) will meet on Zoom. A significant part of this meeting is to appoint the Advisory Committee on Data Issues.

This advisory committee will provide expert advice to the HCCTB on data calls and in the analysis of existing data sources to determine cost drivers. During their last meeting, the HCCTB appointed their Advisory Committee of Health Care Providers and Carriers.

During Thursday’s meeting, the HCCTB will also:

  • Revisit the preliminary recommendations from the April meeting.
  • Learn how to define the population for whom total medical expenses are being measured.
  • Discuss economic indicators for the cost growth benchmark, including criteria and calculation.
  • Hear public comment.
  • Discuss options for establishing a cost growth benchmark.
  • Get a snapshot of historical health care cost growth in Washington.

Yes. Public comment and testimony are a crucial part of the HCCTB’s process. Each board meeting will have a designated time for public comment. If you would like to let us know in advance you’ll be speaking, please contact us at hcahcctboard@hca.wa.gov. You can also submit comments in writing at any time.
