Calling all providers

We would love to highlight the successes of our foundational support community. Do you have a story, lessons learned, or breakthrough that you would be willing to share? Our goal is to share one story per month in this newsletter. Interested providers should contact Matt Christie at Matt.Christie@hca.wa.gov.

Trauma-informed approach (TIA) trainings now available online

Learn how you can support the individuals you serve, staff, and co-workers. HCA and En Route will offer free, online courses including:

  • TIA Overview for Everyone
  • TIA for Staff
  • TIA for Supervisors
  • TIA for Leaders

These courses are available in English and Spanish.

For more information, visit HCA’s trauma-informed approach page or contact traumainformed@hca.wa.gov.

Introducing the Bell Seal for workplace mental health certification program

bell seal

About one in five employees will experience a mental health condition each year, but given the right resources, all employees will benefit from a supportive and psychologically safe workplace.

The Bell Seal recognizes employer advances in workplace mental health by awarding annual recognition levels of bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.

An organization that receives Bell Seal certification will be acknowledged nationwide as a workplace that values mental health and a mentally healthy work environment for all employees.

Learn more or apply for certification.

Notice of terminology change

We are moving away from the term medication assisted treatment (MAT), to medication for opioid use disorder.

A growing number of national experts and organizations expressed that MAT is outdated and may contribute to stigma around using medication to treat opioid use disorder. This term more effectively reflects HCA's overarching goal of providing the best support and recovery options for individuals with opioid use disorder.

Department of Commerce awards $9.6 million to affordable housing projects

The funding will provide grants and loans for 46 affordable housing projects in communities throughout the state. See the complete list.

These funds will help provide an estimated 2,326 multifamily rental units/beds, and 97 new homes for first time home buyers. Funding comes from the state’s Housing Trust Fund, and federal HOME and National Housing Trust Fund programs.

The upcoming procurement is an opportunity for FCS contractors/providers to partner with affordable housing builders/providers to work together to address the three legs of the affordable housing stool (Bricks/Mortar, Services, Operations/Maintenance/Subsidies).

2020 capacity building opportunity

Up to 25 community organizations have the opportunity to apply for intensive, individualized consultation, training, and peer-to-peer support.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. on February 3. You can learn more at a free webinar at 10 a.m. on January 13.
