Universal Health Care Work Group to begin meeting this month

Group to provide recommendations to the Legislature

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) will kick off the Universal Health Care Work Group on Sept. 20. The work group is tasked with delivering recommendations to the Legislature on how to create, implement, maintain, and fund a universal health care system.

The Legislature directed this work in the 2019-2021 state operating budget. The work group will meet regularly—for about 15 months—to develop their recommendations. Details about the first meeting:

  • 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20
  • Legislative Building, Columbia Room (Room 119)
  • 416 Sid Snyder Avenue SW, Olympia

HCA selected a wide range of people to serve on the work group. Members were selected based on their experiences, perspectives, and role in health care. Learn more about the members by viewing the roster.

Work group meetings are public meetings, with an opportunity for public comment at the end. Public comments are an integral part of our work, so we encourage people to attend and share their input. There will also be an opportunity to provide public comment electronically.

HCA has contracted with Health Management Associates, Inc. (HMA) to provide health care policy analysis, financial analysis, and project management for HCA and the work group.
