HCA seeks to expand value-based program

The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) has released a request for proposals (RFP) to expand its Centers of Excellence services and bundled payment programs. The RFP seeks a bundled episode of care for spinal fusion.

State submits Section 1115 waiver amendment to CMS

On March 2, 2018, Washington submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) a request to amend its Section 1115 waiver for the state’s Healthier Washington Medicaid Transformation. 

If approved, the waiver amendment will allow Washington State to maintain and expand access to inpatient and residential SUD treatment, as well as ensure the Transformation’s STCs accurately reflect the agreement between the state and CMS.

    Survey shows great strides in state’s value-based payment strategy

    The Health Care Authority issues an annual value-based payment survey to track progress towards the state's paying for value goals, and to identify barriers impeding desired progress. The 2017 survey of managed care organizations and commercial payers showed the state is making progress in achieving its goal to pay for patient-centered, high quality care.

      In an upcoming webinar, leaders from the Health Care Authority and the Department of Social and Health Services will review highlights of the Medicaid Transformation’s first year and preview what’s to come.

      Medicaid Transformation announces selection of Independent External Evaluator

      Healthier Washington has selected Oregon Health and Science University as the apparently successful bidder to fulfill the duties of Independent External Evaluator for the Healthier Washington Medicaid Transformation.

      Washington’s Section 1115 waiver amendment open for federal public comment

      On March 2, Washington State submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) a request to amend its Section 1115 waiver, the Healthier Washington Medicaid Transformation. The waiver amendment is now open for federal public comment.

      The public may submit comments regarding Washington’s waiver amendment to Medicaid.gov through April 12. Once the federal public comment period ends, the state and CMS will engage in conversation with the goal of approving the waiver amendment.

      Voices of a healthier Washington

      Julie Nye has had a long career in medicine. As a registered nurse, she has worked in surgery, acute care and a community health center. 

      In 2015 she began working in the Monticello Middle school in Longview where she helps connect students to physical and mental health care. She also helps them get access to resources in their communities, such as food, clothing and shelter. Her role at the school was part of a pilot project coordinated by the Cascade Pacific Action Alliance, the Accountable Community of Health in the south Puget Sound region. The goal was to identify children with physical and behavioral health challenges and connect them with community-based intervention and treatment services.
