Webinar to share HCA progress in expanding tools to support providers in shared decision making

The final Healthier Washington quarterly webinar of 2017 will focus on the work occurring under Healthier Washington to promote shared decision making and patient decision aids health care providers can use.

On October 4, 1 to 2 p.m., the webinar will feature Health Care Authority (HCA) Chief Medical Officer Daniel Lessler, Associate Medical Director Emily Transue, and Practice Transformation Manager Laura Pennington sharing an update on this work. Register for the webinar.

Shared Decision Making is a collaborative process that allows patients and their providers to make health care decisions together, taking into account the best scientific evidence available and the patient’s values and preferences. Shared Decision Making honors both the provider’s expert knowledge and the patient’s right to be fully informed of all care options and the potential harms and benefits.

The HCA is currently in the process of finishing a review of PDAs that address total joint replacement and spine care and will soon launch its next round of decision aid reviews.
