Apple Health – Drug classes added to Generics First program, effective May 1

Apple Health (Medicaid): Provider Alert
Effective
for claims with dates of service on and after May 1 2017, Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) administered by the
Health Care Authority (the agency) is adding the following drug classes to the Generics
First program:
Estrogens
Estrogen and progestin combinations
Overactive bladder
The agency
requires that a client’s first course of treatment be a preferred generic drug
within specific drug classes on the Washington Preferred Drug List. Clients new
to a drug class must start on a preferred generic product.
