Protecting the space we've built together

Protecting our space together - a coffee cup, Zoom screen, and books on a table

Our Continuous Improvement Community of Practice (CoP) was created to give Washington State employees working to improve customer experience a place to learn, connect, share ideas, and grow together.

And what this community has become is something pretty special.

Every other month, people from across the enterprise show up ready to learn from one another, generously share what’s working (and sometimes what isn’t!), ask thoughtful questions, and make connections across agencies. Our presenters give their time and expertise, and our participants bring curiosity, encouragement, and experiences that make the conversation richer. That spirit of learning and generosity is what makes this community work, and we’re incredibly grateful for it.

As our community continues to grow, we also want to be intentional about protecting what makes it such a valuable space.

Come curious. Leave room for learning.

Our presenters bring their experience, expertise, and perspectives to help all of us grow. You don't have to agree with every idea shared, and thoughtful questions and different perspectives are welcome! In fact, some of our best learning can happen when someone helps us look at an idea a little differently.

What we ask is that participation remains curious, constructive, and connected to learning.

That can look like:

  • Ask to understand, not to debate. Questions that help unpack an idea or explore how it might apply are always welcome.
  • Challenge ideas with curiosity and respect. Different perspectives can make our conversations richer when they add to the learning rather than pull us away from it.
  • Share the space. With a large and engaged community, we want to make sure many voices have an opportunity to participate.
  • Keep the conversation connected to the topic. Our time together is limited, and staying focused helps everyone get the most from it.
  • Remember there are people behind the screen. Presenters and participants alike deserve the same professionalism, kindness, and respect we hope to create for the customers we serve.

About the community

Our community of practice meets on the third Tuesday of every odd month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. via Zoom to share knowledge and expertise on improving customer experience through continuous improvement.

All are welcome — meetings are optional and open to everyone.

Visit our Community of Practice webpage for more information about our community, our upcoming schedule, and previous meeting materials and recordings.

Customer stories

State agencies teamed up for a shared mission: saving and transforming lives. The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, Employment Security Department, Washington State Arts Commission, and the Washington State Office of Equity went to Wenatchee to bring together state and tribal leaders, caseworkers, artists, and combat veterans for the ninth annual Serving Those Who Served conference on August 19-20, 2026.
