Secretary of State
Deceptive Texts & Emails Targeting Small Businesses
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a consumer protection lawsuit against two businesses and their owner for sending deceptive texts and emails to Washington businesses and nonprofits. Since January 2022, Ferguson said the company sent 147,000 texts and emails deceptively getting people to file their annual report and annual meeting minutes.
Reminders:
- The Secretary of State's office will never send text messages.
- Businesses and nonprofits are required to file an annual report each year by the last day of the month in which they originally formed. They are not required to submit annual meeting minutes.
-
File online using the Corporations and Charities Filing System (CCFS).
- View the consumer alert notification from their website.
We urge anyone who may have been targeted to contact the Attorney General's Office.
