What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a national service program, where Americans of all ages and backgrounds dedicate their time and skills to Get.Things.Done.
An AmeriCorps member makes a commitment to tackle a specific problem for a set period of time, typically in a full-time capacity for about a year.
AmeriCorps offers a variety of service opportunities, from the classroom to the outdoors, and everything in between. No matter what you're passionate about, where you're from, or why you choose to serve, AmeriCorps is your chance to be the greater good. Organizations across Washington are using AmeriCorps as a strategy to tackle problems and make our communities and state the best it can be, but we need YOU to help!

Setting: Elementary Schools
Serve as a tutor and role model for students struggling in reading and math. Work in small groups and with individual students to help them get on track to improve their reading and math proficiency. In collaboration with teachers and peers, develop community-wide literacy projects, and plan literacy events for parents and students in the schools.

Setting: Community-based nonprofit
Lead garden and cooking based education in partner schools to grow good eaters. Each member of the team also takes a lead role in some aspect of our programming such as garden/agricultural specialist, social media specialist, cooking with kids specialist, after school program specialist, etc.

Provide classroom pull-out or push-in literacy tutoring. Facilitate literacy activities during lunch or recess and in after-school programs. Organize literacy events and activities at the service site. Recruit and/or manage additional literacy volunteers from the community.

Serve in elementary, middle and high schools throughout Washington state. Coordinate with community partners and volunteers to marshal resources necessary to address the social and emotional needs of students who are at risk of dropping out of school, and be a key player in helping students toward graduation.

Setting: Community-based Nonprofit
Provide direct, intensive service to youth and families and support young people in meeting their needs, which may vary depending upon service site location. Oversee after-school clubs, provide resources and referrals, facilitate family engagement activities, lead small classes or groups, or conduct outreach for their service site.
