“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'" -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Every year, AmeriCorps members observe MLK Day as a National Day of Service. At WSC, we join with members across the state and country to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by serving on his birthday. This year, MLK Day is Monday, January 19.
Are you a WSC site that is planning to host a service event for MLK Day? Do you need volunteers? Let us know, and we’ll promote your project on our website and social media platforms.
Are you a member who needs a place to serve on MLK Day?
Connecting with others through service helps us keep Dr. King’s memory alive.

Site staff, member evaluations are due by January 31 for those who began service between September and November. Please schedule time with your member to:
The evaluation includes a question about whether the member is on track with their service hours - this is a great opportunity to check in and ensure they’re meeting their goals.
Members, as the holiday and cold-weather season sets in, it’s understandable that you may need to take time off. Before doing so, make sure you’re on track with your required service hours. Here’s how to check:
1. Log into TimeTracker.
2. Open your last approved timesheet.
3. Compare your total hours at the bottom of the sheet to our chart.
Please note: Hours that haven’t been approved yet won’t count toward your total. Ask your site staff to approve all pending timesheets before checking. For example, if you're a 1700-hour member who started on September 2, you should have at least 480 hours served by the end of November.
If you’re falling behind, work with your site staff to create a plan to catch up. You may also be able to use WSC’s alternative service policy. For more on leave, see Section VII (Leave Situations) in your MSA. Please reach out to your coordinator if you have questions.

 Scheduling Site Visits
It is always our goal to provide the best support to our host site staff and members to help ensure their success during the program year. One of the ways we do that is by completing site visits. These visits, completed virtually, give you and your WSC/WRC Site & Member Services Coordinator a chance to set aside dedicated time to check in about how the year is going. The visits are focused on member support, reporting, timesheets, and general technical assistance. We'll also ask for a few minutes with just the members to hear about how their service term is going and answer any questions they may have.
Our Coordinators are beginning to schedule required site visits now - keep an eye out for an invitation to yours! Note that our site visits generally run on a 3-year cycle and your site may not receive one this year. However, if you feel like one would be helpful, please reach out to your Coordinator to schedule.
