Serving During Government Shutdown
Following up on the email we sent on September 26, WSC and WRC members are to continue serving during the federal government shutdown that went into effect today, October 1. In the event that a service site, such as a federal agency, must temporarily close during the shutdown, members can utilize allowable alternative service to keep serving elsewhere; please follow WSC's alternative service policy, and ensure that service activities are not prohibited by AmeriCorps. Connect with your WSC Coordinator if you need further guidance.
Please mark your calendars for this year’s annual member training event! The training is scheduled for October 28-30 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. each day. The training is mandatory for members to attend, so please prioritize this event and refrain from scheduling service activities during these times unless absolutely unavoidable. If you anticipate any scheduling conflicts, please contact our Training Specialist, Bryce Bateman, and he will work to accommodate you.
The event agenda and links to join each session will be sent out soon, so be on the look-out for emails from Bryce with more information.
Site Staff Lunch & Learn Trainings
Our site staff Lunch & Learn training series is back again this year! This is a monthly training opportunity for site staff to connect with their peers, WSC Training Specialist Bryce Bateman, and other WSC staff on timely AmeriCorps and WSC-specific topics. The first Lunch & Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8 from 11:30-12:30 p.m., where we will be doing a high-level overview of the Member Service Agreement, Position Description Form, and basic member management strategies. You can join this session here: Link to join 10/8 Lunch & Learn
Lunch & Learns are hosted on the Microsoft Teams platform. Look for an email from Bryce with a calendar invite for this meeting, the 2025-26 Lunch & Learn schedule, and information about how to review the information covered if you are unable to attend. We look forward to connecting with you!
 Member Recruitment
Site staff, if you're still in the process of filling your member placements, please remember there are options to start members in November and December with 8.5-month service terms.
Please reach out to your WSC/WRC Coordinator and our Outreach Assistant, Hilary Seidel, to update your recruitment plan and get your positions filled.
 #ServiceMatters
Every year, hundreds of Washington Service Corps members choose to serve, and hundreds of site staff choose to welcome members into the tradition of service. We think that choice matters and is worth celebrating!
Join us October 22 – November 4 on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram for our Service Matters campaign. We’ll be featuring stories from alumni, members and site staff that celebrate the impact of service. You can join the conversation by liking and sharing our posts or sharing your own service story. Tag us and use #ServiceMatters, #WhyServe, and #WhyPartner. Let us know if you’d like to be featured for this or future Service Matters campaigns.
