February 2024
Join us in celebrating and honoring Black History Month! This annual celebration was the brainchild of historian Carter G. Woodsen and was initially founded in 1926 and officially recognized in 1976 by President Gerald Ford. President Ford called upon the country to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” This month (and throughout the rest of the year), we invite you to learn more about and honor the rich contributions, cultural heritage, and legacy of African Americans across U.S. history. You can learn more about Black History Month at blackhistorymonth.gov, the National Museum of African American History & Culture, and history.com.

Due March 15
AmeriCorps Week: March 10-16
AmeriCorps Week is a time to salute current members and alumni for their service, thank AmeriCorps community partners, and highlight AmeriCorps’ 30 years of impact on communities and on the lives of those who serve. This year, AmeriCorps Week is March 10-16. Sites and members are encouraged to share their AmeriStories on social media on #DayoftheA (March 14), and invite local elected leaders to support AmeriCorps in your community through official proclamations or taking part in a special service project with you.
Don't forget to tag us in your posts on Facebook and Instagram, so we can help share too!
Check out AmeriCorps' website for more ideas and a communications toolkit.

March 31 is Cesar Chavez Day, a Federal Commemorative Holiday started by President Barack Obama in 2014. Join us in a Day of Service to honor the legacy of Cesar Chavez, an American labor rights hero. By promoting service in our communities, we can inspire future generations to celebrate the life and work of Cesar Chavez, while continuing his fight for worker rights, economic justice, and the empowerment of the poor and disenfranchised.
If you'll be hosting an event for Cesar Chavez Day of Service, share it with us by submitting a Day of Service form. We'll have service projects posted on our website that you can participate in if not hosting one.
