April 2022

Wellness workshops available

Our state's service commission, Serve Washington, has announced they're hosting a new virtual "Extending Wellness" workshop series for members that starts on April 28!

Details were emailed to members on March 22. If you didn't see it come through, you can read more here. You must register before April 28.

Tips for using the ed award

America Learns will be sponsoring a virtual workshop on April 7 at 9am, bringing a panel of AmeriCorps alums together to share practical tools in making the most out of the Segal education award.

Register here to attend. Use "WSC/WRC Reporting" as the program name to have the fee waived.

A recording will be available for those who register.

Earth Day's A-Comin'!

image-wsc-earth-day

Earth Day is one of the world’s largest volunteer events! WSC will celebrate with a Day of Service on April 22.  Please consider hosting an event for your site, or connecting to another local event.

We'll have member-led service projects posted on our website that you can participate in with fellow members if you don't have one already. Contact Ariel Kay if you'd like to have your project added to our list.

As always, we'd love to see photos of your service day! Send them to your WSC Coordinator, or tag us on Facebook and Instagram.

Life After AmeriCorps

As the end of the service term approaches, we'll be hosting a virtual Life After AmeriCorps training in May to help members prepare for the transition from service to whatever comes next - including how to represent AmeriCorps service on a resume in an impactful way, best practices for adapting resumes to fit specific job listings, and other skills to help navigate the post-service job search. Keep an eye out for an email from Bryce Bateman for more information.

Pain at the pump

Members, if you're feeling the impact of the higher gas prices right now, consider these options:
- carpooling with fellow members
- using a regional transit bus pass (the ORCA LIFT is available to lower-income riders)
- breaking out the bicycle
- teleservice (plan in advance with your site staff!)

Check out our resource kit for a few more ideas, including light rail options, which continue to expand in the Puget Sound area.

Member evals

The second member evaluation will be due May 31. If you haven't re-visited professional development or training plans since January, please do so now!

Professional development activities and training can be counted towards service hours, so be sure to include them on timesheets.
