A twice-weekly collection of messages for all ESD staff. Most of these messages are posted on InsideESD.

We stand in solidarity
From Jasper Marino, on behalf of ESD’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group
June is LGBTQ+ pride month and it’s a time for the LGBTQ+ community to come together, celebrate, reflect and look ahead.
Pride month didn’t start as a parade full of rainbows and glitter; it started with a riot. In June 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, LGBTQ+ folks came together and fought back against mistreatment and oppression, starting a movement. That night is known as the Stonewall Riots, and the two individuals who are often credited with leading the way are Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, both of whom were trans women of color.
It would be remiss to talk about LGBTQ+ pride month and not acknowledge identities beyond gender and sexuality — especially when oppression of marginalized populations is still very present, magnified by recent events.
This June, we will feature NewsNet stories celebrating a prominent Black LGBTQ+ person. The LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group stands in solidarity with the Black community.
We see you, we hear you, and you do matter.

Muffin, Rosie and Annie
“Now that I'm working from home (outside of Twisp, about 45 minutes and a mountain pass from Omak), I do a morning walk at my house,” said Heidi Ott of WorkSource Okanogan County. “Some of my horses come to the fence to greet me. They’re actually hoping I have treats for them.
“These quarter horses are Muffin, Rosie and Annie. My daughter and I compete in barrel races. My daughter also does pole bending and goat tying in junior rodeos across eastern Washington. We also ride horses in the mountains and work cows with them.”
