February 2020

2020-21 RFA is now open!

Please spread the word! We are currently accepting applications from organizations to host AmeriCorps members during our 2020-21 program year.

Applications are due February 25. More information can be found on our website.

It's recruitment season!

Do you know someone interested in making a difference through AmeriCorps? Tell them to watch for us at career fairs around the state!

On February 6, we'll be tabling at Western Washington University in Bellingham:

Winter Career Fair

11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Wade King Rec Center

Huxley Environmental Career Fair

4:30 PM – 6:30 PM Wade King Rec Center

New program on the horizon!

In an effort to help address the growing opioid crisis in our state, we have applied to the Corporation for National & Community Service to create a new AmeriCorps program under the WSC umbrella, aptly named the Recovery Corps of Washington! Members who serve in RCW will help educate the public about drug abuse prevention, and/or support individuals in recovery from opioid addiction.

We're optimistic this new program will start in September of this year, and are currently connecting with potential sites to host RCW AmeriCorps members. If you know of an organization that could use the talents and passion of AmeriCorps, please let us know or direct them to our application form.

Serving through site closures

If inclement weather causes a closure of your service site, WSC does not expect members to travel to an alternative service site for that day; our priority is always member safety, so members should stay home in these circumstances. Members may use teleservice hours during unexpected closures if they have pre-approved projects they can complete from home, and haven't already reached the 6-hour teleservice maximum for that month.

If weather-related closures have impacted your ability to reach your service hour goals, please contact your WSC Coordinator.

AmeriCorps Week 2020

March 8 - 14, 2020 AmeriCorps Week is a time to salute current members and alums for their service, AND communicate AmeriCorps’ impact on communities and on the lives of those who serve.

AmeriCorps members throughout the country will be participating in this week of recognition and education.

To support your outreach efforts, we'll be emailing a toolkit to you with information and ideas you can use!

Due March 15

Mark your calendar, please: second quarter stories of service and project performance reports are due in March.

"These months of service have shown me that despite the daunting issues our society faces, we live among vibrant communities of people eager to connect with one another to tackle these larger issues."
