September is National Suicide Prevention Month
Mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness. #BeThe1To is the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s message for National Suicide Prevention Month and beyond, which helps spread the word about actions we can all take to prevent suicide. The Lifeline network and its partners are working to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention to actions that can promote healing, help and give hope.
It is important for people who provide care to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to recognize possible warning signs and risk factors, and learn how to support a person who is experiencing suicidal thoughts.
If you are in crisis, call 988. The 988 Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.
