Assistive Technology and Distance-Based Observation and Reporting: Discussion and Feedback
During the Public Health Emergency, DDA expanded Assistive Technology (AT) to all five Home and Community Based Service waivers and offered Distance-Based Observation and Reporting (DBOR) as a new remote support component of AT. DBOR offers clients access to call center staff for verbal assistance for daily problem solving or reminders when a client is home alone or out in the community alone. DBOR also includes rental technology goods to help support independence and safety. DDA has proposed to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services to keep AT as an available service option on all five waivers and would like to make DBOR a permanent waiver service after the COVID-19 pandemic ends.
DDA would like to invite you to share your thoughts about AT and remote supports.
Below is the registration information for various groups:
-
DDA Service Providers – 9 to 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26 - register here
-
DDA clients, guardians, parents, and representatives – 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 31 - register here
Here are some ideas and thoughts we would like to hear about from you during these discussions:
- What kinds of AT have you tried or are interested in?
- How could AT be helpful? Do you have worries about any type of technology? If you are a provider, how does AT and DBOR impact how your services are delivered?
- Have you heard about remote supports? What are your thoughts about remote supports?
If you have accessed AT, consider filling out the survey below to help us plan for its use in the future.
