New Application Period for Provider Relief Fund

Program also expanded to include additional providers

Dear Provider,

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established a fund to provide relief to Medicaid providers who have lost revenue or seen an increase in expenses due to COVID-19. HHS has announced the latest Provider Relief Fund application period. All applicants will have until 8:59 p.m. PST on November 6, 2020, to submit their applications for payment consideration.

HHS has also expanded the program to include providers across a broad category of practices. Many providers who accept Medicare and Medicaid within these categories have already received a Provider Relief Fund payment, but others have not. The list below includes eligible practices where providers may now apply for funding.

  • Behavioral Health Providers
  • Dental Providers
  • Chiropractors
  • Hospice Providers
  • Emergency Medical Service Providers
  • Residential Treatment Facilities
  • Ambulatory Health Care Facilities
  • Physician Assistants & Advanced Practice Nursing Providers
  • Allopathic & Osteopathic Physicians
  • Assisted Living Facilities
  • Nursing Service and Related Providers
  • Nursing & Custodial Care Facilities
  • Hospital Units
  • Laboratories
  • Eye and Vision Services Providers
  • Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Service Providers

In response to concerns raised, HHS is amending the reporting instructions to increase flexibility around how providers can apply Provider Relief Fund money toward lost revenues caused by coronavirus. After reimbursing healthcare related expenses caused by coronavirus that were not reimbursed by other sources, providers may use remaining funds to cover any lost revenue. Lost revenue is measured as a negative change in year-over-year actual revenue from patient care related sources.
