World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

On June 15, 2006, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The purpose is to promote a better understanding of elder abuse and neglect and raise awareness.

Today, DSHS continues to promote a world that values the importance of kind, fair and just treatment for everyone.  Each of us is getting older and is responsible for educating ourselves and community on how to best support aging individuals.

Celebrations for World Elder Abuse and Awareness Day on June 15 will look different this year due to the pandemic, but there are still ways to participate. The National Center on Elder Abuse provides resources, education and information about elder abuse and neglect. The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day site include tools and tips, links to events and fact sheets about identification and prevention of abuse
