2020 Community Summit and COVID - 19
The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services’ Developmental Disabilities Administration is actively monitoring concerns regarding COVID-19.
Attendees and presenters have approached us asking about plans for cancelling or postponing the Community Summit that is scheduled June 9-11, 2020 in Wenatchee. Our first priority is the health and safety of Summit attendees. It is a complex and rapidly evolving situation and a decision to cancel has not been made at this time.
Our partners at the Wenatchee Convention Center are also monitoring the situation by doing the following:
- Closely monitoring the COVID-19 reports near the property and taking all precautionary measures, protocols and guidelines from trusted health organizations including the World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local public health authorities, in an effort to enable its team members and guests to be as healthy and safe as possible.
- Increasing safety measures at the convention center by:
- Increasing cleaning of high-volume, high-touch areas, including paper towel dispensers, vanity tops, counters and door handles
- Distributing critical information among key staff members, vendors and partners to help prevent communicable sicknesses throughout the property.
- Installing hand-sanitizing stations throughout the convention center to allow guests to clean their hands more frequently;
- Monitoring health departments at the city, state and federal levels to ensure we receive and implement the latest updates and protocols.
As the public health concern evolves, we will make the appropriate decision to postpone or cancel the Community Summit following the recommendation of the Governor, Public Health Officials and DSHS Executive Leadership. As more information becomes available we will share it with you here.
