Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared a public proclamation - dedicating the month to increasing public awareness of the needs and potential of Americans with developmental disabilities. The goal is for more people to be aware of the need to include persons with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life. The goal is also to draw attention to barriers people with disabilities sometimes face when connecting to their communities. This year the focus is on education, employment, and community living.
