On September 4, 2018 the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the award of almost $100 million Housing Choice vouchers to 285 public housing authorities in 45 states. As HUD noted in its press release, the availability of 12,000 new vouchers for non-elderly, low-income people with disabilities "helps to further the goals of the Americans with disabilities act by helping persons with disabilities live in the most integrated settings."

A housing partner provided this information about Housing Authority waitlists openings: 

• Pierce County Housing Authority opened their waitlist September 17, 2018. It remains open indefinitely.

• Everett Housing Authority opened their waitlist September 17, 2018 for three days only. 

• Housing Authority of Okanogan County's list is open September 10, 2018 through October 10, 2018. For more information call 509-422-3721. 

• Housing Authority City of Walla Walla's list is open indefinitely. 

• Housing Authority of Asotin County waitlist is open indefinitely. For more information call 509-758-5751.

• Vancouver Housing Authority waitlist is open indefinitely.  

Check with your local housing authority to see if they will be opening their Section 8 waiting list in your area.
