Overnight Planned Respite - Adults

Overnight Planned Respite is a statewide service for adults that provides families and caregivers with a break in caregiving. Services are provided in a community setting, such as a home or duplex, staffed by contracted certified residential service providers. During the last legislative session, the Developmental Disabilities Administration received funding to increase capacity of Overnight Planned Respite Services. With this funding, two more locations are now available in Olympia and Spokane.

To be eligible, a person must:

  • Be eligible for DDA services;
  • Be age 18 or older;
  • Live at home with a family caregiver (paid or unpaid) or non-family caregiver (unpaid) who needs a break from caregiving;
  • Have support needs that can be safely accommodated in an available contracted and certified setting; and
  • Receive approval by the statewide Adult Respite Service Committee.

Individuals are eligible for up to 14 days of Overnight Planned Respite in a calendar year.  The service does not affect assessed respite hours received through a waiver program.

Overnight Planned Respite services are currently located in Bellingham, Olympia, Shoreline, Spokane and Yakima.
