In this update:
The future westbound Portage Bay Bridge is taking shape! Last week, crews removed the formwork from the first pair of bridge columns after the concrete cured, revealing the columns near Boyer Avenue East.
Crews will continue working from west to east, building out formwork and pouring concrete for additional bridge piers.

Curious about what’s inside these concrete structures? Our short Halloween-themed photo zine, “Good Bones,” takes a closer look at the steel reinforcement that helps strengthen the future westbound Portage Bay Bridge, from its foundations to its columns.
Have questions about piledriving and drilled shaft installation? Check out our Portage Bay major construction updates webpage for work locations and schedules, the differences between impact and vibratory piledriving, and what neighbors can expect.
You can also visit our piledriving schedule webpage for anticipated piledriving dates and times on the east and west ends of the project. We update this page weekly.
Please note that construction schedules can – and often do – change as work progresses. Bookmark this page and check back regularly for the latest updates.
Questions or concerns about noise and vibration?
Our outreach team is available 24 hours a day at 206-319-4520. We’re happy to answer calls and encourage neighbors to reach out with questions or concerns about noise or vibration, particularly if either is unexpected, severe or occurring somewhere they haven’t noticed it before.
Heads up! SR 520 nightly ramp closures continue through November. Closures start at 10 p.m. each night and ramps will reopen by 6 a.m. the next morning. The schedule may change as work progresses. Check our Construction Corner for the latest updates.
Westbound SR 520 off-ramps to northbound I-5 and East Roanoke Street closed select weeknights in November
Crews will continue to close the westbound SR 520 off-ramps to northbound I-5 and East Roanoke Street on select weeknights to excavate soil near the off-ramps.
Currently scheduled closure nights:
- Monday, Nov. 2, through Thursday, Nov. 5
- Monday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 12
Westbound SR 520 traffic continuing past the Montlake Boulevard and Lake Washington Boulevard exits will detour to southbound I-5. A single lane of westbound SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and I-5 will also close.
Eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard closed Nov. 9 and 10
Crews will continue to close the eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard on select nights to deliver materials and prepare for a future traffic shift.
Currently scheduled closure nights:
- Monday, Nov. 9, and Tuesday, Nov. 10
Travelers heading east on SR 520 will not be able to exit at Montlake Boulevard. Drivers entering eastbound SR 520 from I-5 will continue across Lake Washington and pay the SR 520 bridge toll. Travelers heading to Montlake should use alternate routes.
Neighbors near the work zones will hear noise from trucks and construction equipment. If you have questions or concerns about this work, please call our 24-hour hotline at 206-319-4520, or email us at SR520bridge@wsdot.wa.gov.
Crews will fully close westbound SR 520 (between Montlake Boulevard and I-5) around the clock from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16.
During the closure, crews will repair expansion joints on SR 520 and shift the alignment of the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to northbound I-5.
