Saturday lane closures on westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge Oct. 3

TACOMA – Weekend travelers who use the westbound State Route 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge from Tacoma to Gig Harbor will want to plan additional travel time.

From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, two left lanes will close across the westbound bridge.

During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews will work underneath the bridge deck to replace a joint bearing.

Two weeks of lane closures ahead
This is the fourth emergency repair on the westbound 1950 Tacoma Narrows Bridge in 2026. A larger repair to another joint is expected in October that will require two weeks of around-the-clock lane closures.

Whenever near work zones please:

  • Slow down – drive the posted speeds for worker and traveler safety.
  • Be kind – workers are out there helping to keep people safe and improve the roadways.
  • Pay attention – both to workers directing travelers and surrounding traffic.
  • Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible; no meeting or appointment is worth risking someone’s life.
