Two nights of I-5 double lane reductions begin Tuesday, Sept. 29, near Stanwood

Northbound reduced to one lane Tuesday, southbound reduced Wednesday

STANWOOD – Northbound Interstate 5 will be reduced to a single lane overnight Tuesday, Sept. 29, near Stanwood, as the I-5 Secret Creek Fish Passage project continues finishing roadway improvements. Two lanes of southbound I-5 will close overnight Wednesday, Sept. 30.

People traveling through the area during the lane reductions should expect delays.

What to expect
People traveling on I-5 in northern Snohomish County should expect the two left lanes of northbound I-5 to close south of State Route 532 (mileposts 210-213) from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. One night later, two lanes of southbound I-5 will close from 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in the same area.

A single lane will close as early as 6 p.m. each night, and all lanes will reopen by noon the following day. The work needs dry weather and will be rescheduled if rain is forecast.

Other nightly lane closures
The double-lane closures are part of a series of nighttime lane reductions over the next two weeks. People also should expect single-lane closures along northbound and southbound I-5 between 6 p.m. and noon the next day the nights of Monday, Sept. 28, and Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6.

The project is replacing barriers to fish migration beneath I-5 and Pacific Highway with new fish-passable structures, restoring access to more than 5 miles of habitat while improving roadway infrastructure and wildlife access in the area.
