In this update:
Heads up! Crews will close eastbound SR 520 (from I-5 to Montlake Boulevard) around the clock from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, to remove a remaining section of the old off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard and start removing portions of the railing on the existing bridge. This work is in preparation for a future traffic shift in 2027.
What to expect:
- SR 520 across Lake Washington will remain open in both directions. Only the section of eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard will close.
- Travelers heading from I-5 to Montlake or eastbound SR 520 across Lake Washington will need to use alternate routes.
- The Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound SR 520 will remain open.
- Nearby neighbors will hear noise from construction equipment.

This week, crews continued removing the old eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard.
Crews expect to continue removal work during daytime hours next week. The current eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard will remain open while crews finish removing the old ramp.

On-land piledriving near Boyer Avenue East
Crews continue to install approximately 11 piles on land near Boyer Avenue East on the south side of the existing bridge. We expect to complete this work early next week. We will use these piles to create a temporary haul road connection to and from Boyer Avenue East.
In mid-October, we also plan to install about 36 piles near Boyer Avenue East on the north side of the existing bridge. These piles will support a work platform that will allow crews to build a bridge pier on land near the western shoreline.

Crews resumed piledriving between SR 520 and the eastbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard. Crews have installed half of the required piles in this area. Once complete, the piles will form a retaining wall to support a new temporary roadway that crews will build later this year.
What to expect:
- Impact and vibratory piledriving on land.
- Typical work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though crews may need to work at night and on weekends.
- Neighbors near the work zone will notice increased noise and vibration during this work.
We know neighbors would like more information about the piledriving schedule. The exact time and date for piledriving can vary frequently based on soil conditions and construction progress on other parts of the project. We are working on a way to give neighbors more advance notice and will share an update soon. Thank you for your patience.
