Both directions of SR 9 to close for 10 days to repair Lake Creek Bridge near Lake McMurray
Full closure scheduled to begin Monday morning, Sept. 21
LAKE MCMURRAY – Both directions of State Route 9 will close for 10 days beginning Monday, Sept. 21, to repair a bridge over Lake Creek north of Lake McMurray.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will make repairs to the bridge during the 10-day closure, and SR 9 will reopen Wednesday, Sept. 30, in its usual two-lane configuration. The bridge has been reduced to a single lane with a temporary traffic signal alternating northbound and southbound traffic since March 24 due to deteriorating deck conditions.
What to expect Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, SR 9 will close to all traffic over the bridge (milepost 43) until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30.
During the closure, northbound and southbound traffic can detour using SR 534, Interstate 5 and SR 538/College Way in both directions. People traveling through the area should add extra travel time to their plans.
The SR 9 Lake Creek Bridge is a wood truss bridge built in 1966. During the closure, WSDOT will replace portions of the timber deck and pave over the top with asphalt.
WSDOT bridges are inspected on a two-year cycle. The last inspection of this bridge took place in April 2025, and the bridge was determined to be in fair condition. This bridge is part of a statewide bridge system with infrastructure operating beyond its intended service life.
