Plan ahead: Daytime lane closure on US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam Sept. 2-3
HOQUIAM –Daytime travelers who use the 98-year-old US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam will want to plan additional travel time.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3, the right lane of southbound US 101 will close at the bridge.
The lane closure creates a work zone for Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews to replace a bridge attenuator damaged in a recent collision. The attenuator acts as a cushion if a driver hits the bridge.
Travelers can expect congestion approaching the bridge during the work.
About the bridge
Built in 1928, the US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge is one of five moveable bridges in Grays Harbor County. It is 1,978 feet long and is one of two bridges that span the Hoquiam River, connecting the cities of Hoquiam and Aberdeen.
